Paul J. Mitchell is the Founder, President and CEO of Energy Systems Network (ESN), a 15 year non-profit consortium of companies and institutions focused on the development of Indiana’s energy technology “cleantech” sector. ESN has provided project development and coordination for joint ventures and cooperative partnerships of greater than $2 billion between network members seeking to commercialize new energy technologies in a diversity of cleantech markets, including advanced technology vehicles, distributed power generation, advanced biofuels, renewable energy, and energy efficiency.
Mr. Mitchell is also the Founder, President and CEO of the Indy Autonomous Challenge (IAC), a non-profit corporation that organizes racing competitions among university-affiliated teams from around the world. IAC teams program AI drivers to pilot fully autonomous racecars and compete in a series of history-making events at iconic racetracks, including Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Monza F1 Circuit. The IAC is working to establish a global network harnessing the power of innovative competitions to attract the best and the brightest minds from around the globe to further state-of-the-art technology in the safety and performance of autonomous vehicles.
Prior to forming ESN, Mr. Mitchell served in the Office of Governor Mitch Daniels, where he was Policy Director for Economic Development, Workforce, & Energy. In this capacity, he oversaw legislation, policy, and program development for the Indiana Economic Development Corporation, Indiana Department of Workforce Development, and Indiana Department of Labor, and acted as Governor’s liaison to the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission and Office of Utility Consumer Counselor. During his tenure with the Governor’s Office, Mr. Mitchell also led the formation of and directed the Indiana Office of Federal Grants and Procurement.
A native of West Lafayette, Indiana, Mr. Mitchell has a BS and MPA from the O’Neil School of Public & Environmental Affairs at Indiana University, where he graduated as valedictorian. He is married to Olivia Mitchell who is the Founder and CEO of Crouching Tigers a youth martial arts education program. The Mitchells have four children and live in Indianapolis, Indiana.
