John Howarter earned his PhD in Materials Engineering from the Purdue University. Before joining the faculty at Purdue he held a NRC Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Polymers Division at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). His research interests are centered around reducing the operational energy footprint of polymer membranes through material design. This includes a focus on material improvements of polyamide membranes used in desalination and functional composite membranes for targeted separation of industrial wastewater.
